Information on our ‘Two Year Olds’ Program
When a child has reached the age of two, many traits are developing in his character. He is beginning to express his independence and insists on doing many things by himself. This young learner is bursting with energy and ideas. She is beginning to define herself as a separate person. She wants to be independent and yet she is still very dependent.
Cornerstone provides an environment that allows the child to express their independence while learning about sharing and getting along with others. Cornerstone provides your young learner opportunities to explore in learning centers. Listening to stories, singing songs, playing games and creative art are all part of the two-year-old classroom.
We will strengthen the thinking and sensory development with puzzles and sorting. Puppets and picture books enhance the language development. And of course, we have an imagination center, which allows for lots of pretend play. The young learner is encouraged to explore new interests and offered hands-on experiences. Our experienced teachers develop lesson plans that are theme based.
The lessons allow new adventures in the classroom each week. Usually at two years of age, children begin to take an interest in being potty trained. Our classroom will work with the parent as you initiate potty training opportunities for your child. This is a very sensitive time for a young child and will be handled with care and love. Children in this stage of development are discovering their capabilities and limits. Potty training is a natural, physical and emotional development that will proceed at its own rate.
Opportunities to develop self-help skills such as hand washing and feeding are also important in our two-year-old curriculum. Cornerstone follows a creative curriculum and nationally recognized guidelines for development. The two-year-old classroom offers a continuous loving environment with nurturing instructors that are trained to provide learning opportunities. These experiences will prepare your young learner for the Preschool environment. For more information about our school and programs, please call us today at (817) 237-6200.
